Amir Abdur-Rahim
The Future Foundation is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Amir Abdur Rahim. Since 2023, Abdur Rahim has been the head basketball coach at the University of South Florida. Before moving to South Florida, he spent four seasons coaching at Kennesaw State after holding a staff position at the University of Georgia. He is the brother of Future Foundation co-founders Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Qaadirah Abdur-Rahim. Shareef is the President of the NBA G League and a longtime and dedicated member of the Future Foundation Board of Directors.
Our board of directors, staff, supporters, and students were all admirers of Amir and the passion he brought to basketball and life. He is survived by his wife, Arianne, and three children, Laila, Lana, and Aydin. In all his coaching positions, Amir exceeded expectations and coached his players to championships and winning seasons. His dynamic personality embodied the idea that athletics should allow young people to find a better life on and off the court.
As a member of the Abdur-Rahim Family Foundation, Amir was also a frequent donor to the Future Foundation and a vocal supporter of our mission. “This past May, at our Spring Mixer, I had the opportunity to meet him. Amir told me of his dedication to the task of stuffing, addressing, and mailing hundreds of envelopes to prospective donors. Before he left that night, he left the largest donation of the evening,” says Ronnette V. Smith, CEO of Future Foundation. There are no words tonight to express the sadness that this bright light of a leader is gone. Please join us with thoughts and prayers for Shareef, Qaadirah and entire Abdur-Rahim family, and we will pass along information about a memorial service when that has been arranged.
