Hundreds of Atlanta Families and Students Impacted by State and Federal Grant Funding Uncertainty

The Future Foundation is a non-profit organization in Atlanta that manages unique afterschool programs designed to increase the high school graduation rates of enrolled students to 100%. During the first quarter, the program served 205 students from 175 families in the Fulton County area. These programs enroll students from four area middle schools and two area high schools. The programs also result in 80% increases in English Language Arts and Math scores. The average high school graduation rate in Atlanta for students not receiving assistance from The Future Foundation is 85%.

Future Foundation CEO Ronnette Smith says, “To a large extent, the work we do to help young people find success in and out of the classroom is funded by state and federal grants. The current uncertainty about the future of grant funding means we have to rely more than ever on the funding we raise through traditional channels. The Future Foundation is no different from thousands of other nonprofits worried about funding amid national economic turbulence.

The Future Foundation will hold its largest flagship fundraiser on April 29, 2025. The Keep It 100% event will bring together donors, community leaders, and students at the recently renovated Delta Flight Museum. Please click here for more information about supporting a worthwhile local cause while national grant money funding is threatened. The event will be hosted and moderated by local television news personality Aisha Howard at 11 Alive.

Ronnette Smith is a respected non-profit leader who spent much of her career working at some of the largest corporate brands in America. She is available for speaking engagements and media interviews regarding the rapidly changing economic outlook of local non-profit organizations. Smith says, “We must proactively work together to define new funding opportunities if current grants are canceled with little or no notice.  That’s the least we owe to the families we serve.”

Over the past 25 years, The Future Foundation has served 30,000 students in South Fulton neighborhoods. The foundation was created by Atlanta basketball legend Shareef Abdur-Rahim and his family.
