In March, the students of the FF Banneker Afterschool Program received another perspective on this important theme as they enjoyed an enriching visit from Herberto Horne, also known as “The Perfect Gentleman” (TPG).
Herberto shared useful etiquette tips to enhance students’ social interactions. And it wasn’t just for the males in the program—The Perfect Gentleman also shared advice that could help young women aspire to be “The Perfect Lady,” and to expect nothing less than appropriate interactions with young men.
Some of the advice included an original approach known as the 10x10x10 Rule, which helps remind students of three important aspects of socialization: appearance, hygiene and mannerisms.
One of the highlights of The Perfect Gentleman’s presentation was “How to Tie a Tie.” The students—both young men and women—enjoyed the lesson because it allowed for fun, interactive, nontraditional learning. Future presentations by TPG are already in the works, with an upcoming presentation designed to teach students how to have “The Perfect Prom.”
“Herberto provided a very valuable look at how to operate in society beyond high school,” says Otha William, FF Banneker Afterschool program manager. “As young people growing up in a very critical environment, it is imperative that fundamental information such as this is taught and reinforced.”
