Reef House Learning Center is now beautifully landscaped, thanks to a grant from Building Community Network (BCN), a partnership between Home Depot and the Georgia Center for Nonprofits. Future Foundationwas selected as a community site for the second annual BCN Team Depot Service Project, which took place in June.
Team Depot is the associate-led volunteer program of The Home Depot that provides opportunities for Home Depot associates and suppliers to contribute their home improvement know-how to create a meaningful impact in communities.
We requested Team Depot’s support for a landscaping project at Reef House, where we provide after-school activities for sixth and seventh graders. The vision was to transform our outdoor space—which had been used primarily for playing basketball or socializing—into a learning environment surrounded by plant life, where we could build a workshop area or small classroom in the future.
“We wanted to make the backyard space a comfortable place to hold enrichment activities like culinary arts or painting, allow students to exercise and play, and have educated discussions, like fireside chats,” said Brittany Gray, Future Foundation’s Executive Administrator. “We also hoped to do some light landscaping in front of our building, to provide a more welcoming feel.”
On June 12th, Team Depot volunteers arrived at Reef House to perform the landscaping work. They planted flowers and vegetables, laid sod, constructed walkways, repaired fencing—and much more.
We’re extremely grateful for the grant and the hard-working volunteers who made our landscaping vision a reality. The improvements made our Reef House site more appealing to our students—many of whom consider Future Foundation a “second home.”
We believe the more we invest in making our learning space more comfortable and fun, the more successful our youth will be.
