Future Foundation’s Reef House Girls had an amazing trip to the Emory Chemistry department. Students had the chance to learn about the research going on at Emory. Dr. Emily Weinert is working on how bacteria sense their environment. Dr. Susanna Widicus-Weaver spoke to the girls on how she is using chemistry to identify molecules in the universe. Dr. Monya Ruffin inspired out girls and let them know there are careers in S.T.E.M. waiting on them. Then came the tour of the lab. Students wore protective glasses as they were able to explore an actual university lab where research is going on. At the end of the tour, the girls had the chance to explore solids and liquids that act do not behave in a typical way. We are preparing to stand out by gaining exposure to real life careers in Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
