Future Foundation Celebrates Atlanta Investments in Education for Underserved Youth

Founded by NBA pro Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Future Foundation will celebrate Atlanta’s past, present and future investments in education for underserved youth at the Keep It 100% Luncheon on April 20, 2016. Event chair Cyril Turner, president of Delta Global Services and Delta Private Jets, will present the inaugural Jean Childs Young Individual Leadership in Education Award will be presented to Curley Dossman, president of the Georgia-Pacific Foundation, and the Ann Cramer Corporate Leadership in Education Award will be presented to Georgia Power. Selling yourself in 30 seconds or less

An elevator pitch or speech is very short, persuasive and designed to create interest in a project, idea, product—or even yourself. According to MindTools, a good elevator speech should be interesting, memorable, and succinct. It needs to explain what makes you unique. And it should be no longer than a short elevator ride—20 to 30 seconds. Believing that self-empowerment starts with self-confidence, we have been using elevator speeches as part of our summer program curriculum. STEAM Careers Realized

This summer, our older students participated in an innovative eight-week “Maker Model” program at the Opportunity Hub (OHUB). The program emphasizes the importance of allowing students to create products that solve real-world problems. The new [email protected] Innovation Campus is a joint venture with Herman J. Russell that offers over 4,300 square feet of communal and collaborative co-working. The STEAM Career & Work Readiness Summer Start-Up Program is a comprehensive training and support program for 8th through 12th grade students. Maurice Anderson owns The Anderson Business Group, which provides business strategy and executive leadership development and coaching. Gerone Conyers, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President, Engineering – NXPOINT Solutions. “We [Heart] UPS”

Since 2012, UPS has awarded Future Foundation more than $50,000 to support after-school programming. In early 2015, we requested additional funding to support the Reef House Afterschool Program (RHAP) Digital Learning Lab Project. Digital media is altering the landscape of learning in both higher education and K-12 schools. Access to technology out-of-school is crucial to students’ success in the classroom and ultimately in their careers.
