An elevator pitch or speech is very short, persuasive and designed to create interest in a project, idea, product—or even yourself. According to MindTools, a good elevator speech should be interesting, memorable, and succinct. It needs to explain what makes you unique. And it should be no longer than a short elevator ride—20 to 30 seconds. J. Young Media’s Helping Our Youth Stand Out!
We had the opportunity to work with J Young Media, an award winning full service video production company. They utilize skilled videographers, producers, production assistants, editors, motion graphic artists, and other contractors. They use their abilities to collaborate with and promote local nonprofits using video (documentaries, PSA’s, video series, etc.) to create awareness and initiate change from the populations these nonprofits serve. J Young Media is currently in pre-production on a youth based series based in Atlanta, GA. SUMMERTIME STEM @ SIEMENS
On Tuesday 7/15/2014 the teens were invited to participate in Siemens Science Day. George Buchanan, a Future Foundation Board Member, taught the teens all about windmills and how they operate. They learned that “Wind turbines”, the modern equivalent of the windmill, are usually grouped into large collections of units to produce electricity. These are called wind power plants, or wind farms. They are generally located in agricultural areas where large plots of land are available, and agricultural activities are undisturbed by their action. Reef House Goes to Emory Chemistry Department
Future Foundation’s Reef House Girls had an amazing trip to the Emory Chemistry department. Students had the chance to learn about the research going on at Emory. Dr. Emily Weinert is working on how bacteria sense their environment. Dr. Susanna Widicus-Weaver spoke to the girls on how she is using chemistry to identify molecules in the universe. Dr. Monya Ruffin inspired out girls and let them know there are careers in S.T.E.M. waiting on them. Then came the tour of the lab. Future Foundation Students & Duke TIP
Summer Brown and Chris Patterson, seventh graders at Woodland Middle School and active participants in our Reef House Learning Center, were selected to take a test for the Duke University Talent Identification Program (DukeTIP). Summer was the only seventh grader in the South Fulton Learning Community who was accepted into the Summer Program.
