On Tuesday 7/15/2014 the teens were invited to participate in Siemens Science Day. George Buchanan, a Future Foundation Board Member, taught the teens all about windmills and how they operate. They learned that “Wind turbines”, the modern equivalent of the windmill, are usually grouped into large collections of units to produce electricity. These are called wind power plants, or wind farms. They are generally located in agricultural areas where large plots of land are available, and agricultural activities are undisturbed by their action. Her recent graduation from Atlanta Technical College with an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Business Administration helped motivate Future Foundation students to focus on their own high school graduation. United Way announces FUTURE FOUNDATION as winner of their $300,000 Dare to Forget the Box Prize – to implement the innovative works of the College Park Enrichment Collaboration (CPEC)!
Today, United Way of Greater Atlanta announced the winners of its DARE to Forget the Box! prizes. Out of the 80 agencies that applied and 25 finalists, we were one of four collaborative teams addressing critical systemic issues to be selected to receive prizes. We are proud to say that we are a recipient of a $300,000 grant annually, totaling $900,000 over the next three years that will greatly impact the lives of over a hundred youth and families in South Fulton! Making Heroes out of Our Learning and Teen Center Students
There's nothing quite like the connection made when reading to a child. The connection is even more meaningful when the reader is reading his or her own book. That simple thought drove a new activity for students at our Learning and Teen Centers: writing and illustrating their own books-then reading them to pre-K children at local daycare facilities. The idea was developed by one of our employee innovation program teams called Gift Givers. Because the books can be read over and over, we call it gifts that keep on giving. Designing Our Future Presentation Day
Friday's Designing The Future Presentation Day was a great success! Our young ladies presented their inspiration boards on their styles for the first apartments.
