Future Foundation Night recognizes graduating high school seniors

On April 14, the Atlanta Hawks took on the Charlotte Bobcats at Philips Arena. But the night wasn’t just about basketball—it was also a way to recognize the success of our 2014 graduating seniors by acknowledging their academic achievement in a very public way. The event really began on March 28, when Atlanta Hawks mascot Harry the Hawk came to the Reef House Learning Center to lead a Pep Rally. Then, before the game on April 14, fans and onlookers watched as 12 youth were recognized for their academic achievements. Future Foundation Board Chairman Eric Barnum spoke and presented two youth with special court level seats. Making Heroes out of Our Learning and Teen Center Students

There's nothing quite like the connection made when reading to a child. The connection is even more meaningful when the reader is reading his or her own book. That simple thought drove a new activity for students at our Learning and Teen Centers: writing and illustrating their own books-then reading them to pre-K children at local daycare facilities. The idea was developed by one of our employee innovation program teams called Gift Givers. Because the books can be read over and over, we call it gifts that keep on giving. I found out I was pregnant when I was 16 years old I had my baby when I just turned 17. I didn't imagine the huge responsibility there is to have a baby. My baby daddy was happy when he found out I was pregnant because he didn't imagine how expensive babies are! I got lucky because I had my baby in summer vacation I went back to school being a senior in high school. Luckily I graduated got my diploma and now I’m in college trying to get my associates degree.
