This holiday season we reflect on what drives us forward throughout the year, and we extend gratitude for all who invest in us. Fifty-percent. That's how many of the students in East Point and College Park graduate from high school. At Future Foundation, we've doubled that average. In our first decade, we ensured that 100% of our students graduated, despite poorly performing high schools, and went on to post-secondary institutions. Post Event Update: American Promise Movie Screening, Panel Discussion, & Essay Contest
On November 11, Future Foundation presented, A Conversation With Our Sons, a panel discussion and film screening designed to equip the audience with skills to successfully raise African American males and provide them with heroes in their lives in the form of mentors. In addition to the film screening, male students at Tri-Cities High School participated in an essay contest where they reflected on what it means to be a successful young man in America, barriers faced, and what it takes to overcome obstacles. Sublime in the Community
Last Thursday, our Teen Center students visited Sublime Doughnuts to learn a little about what it takes to start and run your own business. There is no better example than Sublime. Owner, Kamal Grant, native of Marietta, Georgia, started this family business back in 2008 because he simply loves doughnuts. He first discovered his passion for cooking while in high school while taking a food service class. He shared with the students that a Dunkin Donuts executive spoke to his class and he never forgot how much fun the executive seemed to have in his career.
