It’s about connectedness this holiday season – and every day.

December 8, 2015 by Future Foundation

This holiday season we reflect on what drives us forward throughout the year, and we extend gratitude for all who invest in us. Fifty-percent. That's how many of the students in East Point and College Park graduate from high school. At Future Foundation, we've doubled that average. In our first decade, we ensured that 100% of our students graduated, despite poorly performing high schools, and went on to post-secondary institutions. That's one way we're bridging gaps between dreams and reality - and combatting daunting statistics through our core programs. To view in entirety, click here. Just as we've improved graduation rates, we're serious about addressing poverty - and … [Read more...] about It’s about connectedness this holiday season – and every day.

SUMMERTIME STEM @ SIEMENS

July 22, 2014 by Future Foundation

On Tuesday 7/15/2014 the teens were invited to participate in Siemens Science Day. George Buchanan, a Future Foundation Board Member,  taught the teens all about windmills and how they operate. They learned that “Wind turbines”, the modern equivalent of the windmill, are usually grouped into large collections of units to produce electricity. These are called wind power plants, or wind farms. They are generally located in agricultural areas where large plots of land are available, and agricultural activities are undisturbed by their action. Often located in windy areas of the country, they can also be constructed offshore to make use of winds that sweep over the bodies of water. Wind-powered … [Read more...] about SUMMERTIME STEM @ SIEMENS

Future Foundation travels to the Georgia Teen Institute

July 7, 2014 by Future Foundation

How will you make it matter?  This was the question posed to  our Future Foundation’s Real Talk Ambassadors. The Georgia Teen Institute provided teens the space to become leaders in their own community.  GTI is a week of fun and teamwork in a college setting.  The week was filled with team meetings, new friends, challenging tasks, and activities. The student leaders are already deciding why their topic of choice is so important with their “but whys”. In a team building workshop, our leaders had to complete a task while staying focused.  This task taught us that we have to work together to accomplish a task even though it can be hard.  General Sessions were always fun with door prizes of … [Read more...] about Future Foundation travels to the Georgia Teen Institute

Future Foundation Night recognizes graduating high school seniors

June 30, 2014 by Future Foundation

On April 14, the Atlanta Hawks took on the Charlotte Bobcats at Philips Arena. But the night wasn’t just about basketball—it was also a way to recognize the success of our 2014 graduating seniors by acknowledging their academic achievement in a very public way. The event really began on March 28, when Atlanta Hawks mascot Harry the Hawk came to the Reef House Learning Center to lead a Pep Rally. Then, before the game on April 14, fans and onlookers watched as 12 youth were recognized for their academic achievements. Future Foundation Board Chairman Eric Barnum spoke and presented two youth with special court level seats. Future Foundation staff then joined the students and their families … [Read more...] about Future Foundation Night recognizes graduating high school seniors
