Young Professionals of NY: Day 10 of 24 Days of Preparing To Stand Out Against Poverty

April 17, 2013

Fedna Jacquet, Actress, 24 – Imagine, Explore, Communicate – I prepare to stand out against poverty by choosing to do community based theater. Individuals in our society have a way of ignoring the larger world around them. Theater will help provide a mirror for society, which allows the audience to gain sight into the struggles of their fellow citizens. I will always stay current and honest to the important issues at hand such as poverty, education, and equality.

Scott Brody, Financial Associate, 23 (top) – Ambition, Ingenuity, Resilience – I seek to combat inequality by focusing on mentorship and relationships as a means to increase exposure to the myriad of opportunities that exist in the world, regardless of one’s background. I believe with the right guidance, perseverance, and confidence one can overcome nearly any obstacle. I hope to help reinforce that belief in members of my community.

Porter Braswell, Financial Analyst, 25 (bottom) – Confidence, Perseverance, Believe – I prepare to stand out against poverty by mentoring youth and instilling the belief that they already have the tools required to be successful in any endeavor they choose to take on in life, as long as they focus their energy towards a specific goal. Anyone, regardless of any obstacle on their path towards excellence, can achieve any dream that they can conceive. It takes confidence, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in one’s own abilities. Once our youth begin to believe that they are destined for more than a life of “just trying to get by” we will end poverty.

How will you prepare to stand out?
