Dreams vs. Reality

My heart has been heavy this week as I learned about the consecutive killings of two South Fulton students due to senseless violence. One of those students, Benson West, was a freshmen at Banneker High School and participating in our RealTalk ATL Program. I never met Benson, but I learned from our team this morning he was quiet in class, it was clear he was struggling with something, and recently asked about our College4Careers Program. GA DOE’s New Accountability System Reaffirms A Need for Academic Interventions in South Fulton

Two very important reports were released this week.  First, the GA Department of Education released their new school accountability system, College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), that measures schools and school districts on an easy-to-understand 100 point scale. The CCRPI is the new accountability system that replaces the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measurement in Georgia.  It will help parents and the public better understand how schools are performing in a more comprehensive manner than the pass/fail system previously in place under AYP.  A link to online reports for each school and district can be found at: http://ccrpi.gadoe.org/2012.
